Men's Soccer Upended by St. Lawrence, 4-1

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo first-year back Caleb Murthy scored a goal in the 53 minute of action, but it was St. Lawrence responding with four goals in the final 17 minutes of play to earn the 4-1 victory, Saturday.

The Knights got on the board first after senior forward Ethan Gunty served a long ball from the right wing during a corner kick attempt into the box where Murthy headed his first goal of the season into the back of the net from close range.

St. Lawrence (4-0) got into the action in the 73rd minute after sophomore forward Tapshak Augustine finished a cross into the box with a short shot to knot the score, 1-1.

Less than a minute later, the Saints were awarded a penalty kick after Geneseo first-year keeper Dillon Medd brought down a St. Lawrence attacker in the box in an attempt to halt a pair of Saints that had broken free. With Medd red-carded, St. Lawrence senior midfielder Noah Bunton converted the free attempt for the 2-1 edge. 

Tapshak struck again in the 79th minute receiving a cross from from the left wing by sophomore forward Charlton Kelly and finishing from close range. In the 88th minute, sophomore midfielder Jethro Dede collected a rebound off the cross bar and scored for the final goal of the game.

Geneseo (2-2) returns to action Wednesday (Sept. 14) hosting Houghton at 7:00 p.m.
