GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team is set to kick off the 2016 season in less than a month as the Knights' schedule was recently released.
Once again, our non-conference schedule at the beginning of the season will be a tough one as we prepare for conference play in the second half," said sixth-year head coach Dominic Oliveri. "We have some stiff competition both at home and on the road, but I anticipate it will have us prepared for the challenges league play always brings."
The Knights will start the campaign with a pair of matches at the 18th-Annual Garnet Alumni Classic, taking on host Swarthmore (Pa.) on Sunday, Sept. 4 after squaring off with Rosemont (Pa) the previous day.
Geneseo will then play four-consecutive home games over an eight-day stretch, hosting Clarkson (Sept. 9), St. Lawrence (Sept. 10), Houghton (Sept. 14) and Hobart (Sept. 17) before opening State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action with road contests at Buffalo State (Sept. 23) and Fredonia (Sept. 24).
Following a trip to Nazareth (Sept. 27), the Knights will host a pair of SUNYAC matches versus defending conference champion Oneonta (Sept. 30) and New Paltz (Oct. 1).
Geneseo will make trips to RIT (Oct. 5) and Brockport (Oct. 8) prior to hosting Cortland (Oct. 14) and Oswego (Oct. 15) in the final home games of the regular season. After completing a trip north to play Potsdam (Oct. 21) and Plattsburgh (Oct. 22), the Knights will take on host St. John Fisher (Oct. 36) in its final tune-up for the SUNYAC Tournament, slated to start with the quarterfinals on Oct. 29.
