Men's Lacrosse Powers Past Olivet (Mich.), 18-11

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo sophomore attackman Jack Ladd totaled a team-high two goals and two assists to lead the Knights to an 18-11 victory over visiting Olivet (Mich.) in men's lacrosse action, Saturday. 

Ladd was one of six Knights (4-1) with two goals, including sophomore attackman Zachary DeBottis and junior attackman Ryan Kelly, who each was credited with an assist as well. 

Goals by sophomore attackman Kyle Wanamaker and Ladd staked the Knights to a 2-0 lead with 12:46 on the first quarter clock before Olivet got on the board at 6:12. A man-up tally by Kelly followed by a strike by senior attackman Ryan Gulbransen 23 seconds later made it a 4-2 Geneseo advantage at 4:07. Olivet scored twice in the final four minutes, including a tally with .02 on the clock, to make it a 4-3 game at the end of the first quarter. 

Geneseo scored three of the first four goals of the second quarter to build a 7-4 edge at 10:51. The Comets pulled back within two, 7-5, with a tally at 9:39, but the Knights finished the half with five unanswered tallies to carry a 12-5 lead into the halftime locker room. 

Olivet (2-4) started the third-period scoring at the 12:41 mark as the teams alternated goals to a 15-8 Geneseo lead heading into the final quarter. The Knights scored back-to-back goals to build a 17-8 edge with 9:43 remaining en route to the victory.

Geneseo finished the game with a 45-29 advantage in shots as well as a 48-29 advantage in ground balls, led by seven by junior midfielder Alex Leuze

Geneseo will be back in action on Tuesday with a road trip to Skidmore for a 4:00 p.m. face-off.
