WILMINGTON, Ohio – SUNY Geneseo sophomore forward Zachary DeBottis scored a career-high five goals while senior attackman Tim Wright added four assists to lead the Knights to a 18-7 win at Wilmington (Ohio), Saturday.
A DeBottis goal with 3:41 on the clock staked the Knights (3-0) to a 3-0 first-quarter lead. Wilmington got on the board with 1:47 remaining, but a 4-0 run to start the second quarter, capped by a man-up tally by senior midfielder Michael Engstrom made it a 7-1 Geneseo advantage with 10:25 remaining in the half. The Quakers notched an extra-man tally of their own at 5:11, but a goal by senior attackman Ryan Gulbransen at 2:51 pushed the visitors to an 8-2 halftime advantage.
Geneseo out-scored Wilmington 7-2 in the third quarter, including three tallies by DeBottis, to build a commanding 15-4 lead that proved insurmountable heading into the final period.
The Knights will be back in action on Wednesday (March 22) with a 4:00 p.m. face-off at St. John Fisher.
