BROCKPORT, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior midfielder Joe Chiara scored two goals and two assists, but it was host Brockport taking the 11-6 victory over the Knights, Wednesday, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's lacrosse play.
Chiara scored the lone goal of the first period, putting the Knights on the board at 4:54. However, it was the Golden Eagles responding with five-unanswered second-quarter tallies to build a 5-1 edge with 4:28 on the clock. Geneseo first-year attackman Kyle Wanamaker closed the first-half scoring with a tally at 2:39 as the Knights trailed, 5-2, after 30 minutes of play.
Geneseo sophomore attackman Ryan Kelly scored off an assist by junior attackman Tim Wright at 11:22 of the third quarter, but Brockport would finish the period with three-unanswered goals to build a 8-3 lead heading into the final quarter.
Wright and Chiara opened the fourth with a pair of goals in a span 1:50 that pulled Geneseo within three, 8-5, with 12:13 left to play, but the Golden Eagles put the game out of reach by out-scoring the visitors, 3-1, down the stretch.
Sophomore goalie Michael Yehl was credited with a season-high 19 saves in the setback as Brockport out-shot the Knights, 44-30.
Geneseo returns home on Saturday to host SUNYAC-rival Plattsburgh at 1:00 p.m.
