GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore midfielder Joe Chiara scored four goals, including three unanswered during a 3-0 fourth-quarter run, and added an assist to lead the Knights to a 10-9 victory over Oswego in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's lacrosse action, Saturday.
With the Knights trailing, 8-7, after the Lakers finished the third quarter with three-straight goals, Chiara started the fourth quarter with back-to-back unassisted tallies in less than three minutes to put Geneseo (4-7, 2-2 SUNYAC) back on top, 9-8, with 10:29 on the clock.
With under five minutes remaining, a Knights penalty released just as they were in the midst of a transition and senior midfielder Connor Fedge hit Chiara, who came out of the penalty box unchecked, for his fourth goal to give Geneseo a two-goal edge, 10-8, with 4:02 left in regulation.
Junior midfielder Steve Aziz and junior attackman Steven Cregan each added a goal and an assist, while junior midfielder Zach Yehl, junior attackman Brent Lawless, sophomore attackman Ryan Gulbransen and junior attackman Cory Gleasman each netted a goal in game that saw the lead change hands five times along with four ties.
For Oswego (6-7, 0-4 SUNYAC), junior midfielder Nick Giampaolo totaled three goals and an assist, while junior midfielder Matt Palmer added three goals in the loss.
Senior goalie Ryan Zaremba was credited with nine saves to earn the victory for Geneseo, which returns to action on Wednesday with a road trip to Cortland for a 4:00 p.m. face-off with the Red Dragons.
