Men's Lacrosse Comes Up Short At Oneonta, 10-8

ONEONTA, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior attackman Sam Thompson scored four goals while junior attackman Andre Keating added two goals and two assists, but it was host Oneonta holding off the Knights, 10-8, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's lacrosse, Saturday afternoon.

Tied, 8-8, after three quarters of play, the Red Dragons (4-7, 2-0 SUNYAC) tallied a pair of goals in a 41-second span midway through the final period while holding Geneseo (2-5, 0-2 SUNYAC) scoreless to clinch the win.

Goals by Keating at 12:24 and Thompson at 7:51 gave the Knights an early 2-0 lead before Oneonta responded with two tallies of its own, including one with 32 seconds on the clock, to knot the game, 2-2, after 15 minutes of play.

In the second quarter, Oneonta scored three unanswered goals to take a 5-2 lead with 2:52 on the clock. Thompson would convert a man-up attempt off a feed from junior attackman Steven Cregan at 1:02 as Geneseo trailed by two, 5-3, at intermission.

A man-up goal by Keating at 13:28 followed by a Keating-to-Thompson hookup at 11:51 tied the game, 5-5. Oneonta would respond with a tally 33 seconds later, before a goal by sophomore midfielder Joe Chiara at 5:42 and a extra-man conversion by Thompson at 4:58 gave the visitors a 7-6 lead. Oneonta score goals at 3:22 and with 13 seconds on the clock to re-take the lead, but senior d-middie Joe Cicio would win the ensuing faceoff and beat the third-quarter horn for a tally with four seconds showing to send the two teams to the fourth quarter tied, 8-8.

Senior goalie Ryan Zaremba was credited with 13 saves to suffer the loss.

Geneseo will return to action Wednesday, traveling to Brockport for a 4:00 p.m. faceoff in search of its first SUNYAC victory.
