GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo men's ice hockey team was selected to finish first in the 2017-18 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) preseason coaches poll, released Thursday.
The Knights received 70 points, one more than defending champion Plattsburgh and eight more than third-place Oswego out of the nine teams in the league.
Last season, Geneseo finished the season with a 17-7-3 record, including a 10-5-1 SUNYAC mark to earn the third seed for the conference tournament. It was the fourth time in the last five seasons that the Knights finished with at least 17 victories.
Ranked No. 13 and No. 15, respectively, in the final USCHO.com and D3Hockey.com national polls as well as third in the nation in scoring offense (4.63 goals per game), Geneseo earned a 7-0 shutout over visiting Brockport in the first round of the SUNYAC Tournament, before falling at top-seeded Plattsburgh, 5-2, in the semifinals.
Geneseo opens the winter season with three-straight home games, starting with Neumann (Oct. 27), Nazareth (Oct. 28) and Buffalo State (Nov. 3). All three games are slated for 7:00 p.m. face-offs.
