2017 Capitals Development Camp Guide

ARLINGTON, Va. - SUNY Geneseo graduate Stephen Collins '17 was invited to the Washington Capitals' 2017 Development Camp, participating in on-ice and off-ice workouts for the National Hockey League (NHL) team this week.

Collins is one of 14 NCAA camp attendants and the only participant from NCAA Division III. Capitals Development Camp is an annual, week-long summer session with workouts designed to help Capitals prospects improve their games and allow the Capitals to evaluate their progress. This is the 11th consecutive year that the camp is being held at Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Va.

The USCHO Player of the Year and Sid Watson Award runner-up was also an AHCA All-American and named the Herb Hammonds SUNYAC Player of the Year after scoring a career-high 48 points (19 goals, 29 assists) in his senior season with the Knights.

According to Capitals' public relations, one player that attended last season's camp made an appearance with the Capitals during the 2016-17 season, while eight made appearances for the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate the Hershey Bears and four appeared for the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) affiliate South Carolina Stingrays.

The Washington Capitals development camp will conclude on Saturday with an intrasquad scrimmage at 10 a.m. The game will be streamed live online.
