GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior goalie Matt Leon made 22 saves but it was No. 15 Plattsburgh holding on for a 1-0 victory over the No. 6 Knights, Friday, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's ice hockey action.
In the second period, Plattsburgh (15-8-1, 10-4-1 SUNYAC) notched the lone goal of the game. First-year defenseman Charles Barber fired a shot from the top of the zone that junior forward Matt Quilty tipped on a crowded crease past Leon with 7:24 on the clock.
Geneseo (15-6-3, 9-5-1 SUNYAC) finished the night with a 26-23 advantage in shots, but it was Cardinal senior goalie Brady Rouleau preserving his first shutout of the season as the visitors improved to 9-0-1 in their last 10 games.
The SUNYAC Tournament playoff picture remains muddy with one day left in the regular season. Already assured of no lower than the fourth seed, a victory over visiting Potsdam on Saturday (7:00 p.m.), coupled with a Buffalo State loss at Oswego would clinch the Knights the third seed and a quarterfinal home game on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.
Following Saturday's game, the 10 members of the Knights' Class of 2017 will be honored in a Senior Day ceremony.
