BROCKPORT, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo first-year forward Devin Brink scored three goals for his first-collegiate hat-trick to lead the No. 6 Knights to a 5-2 victory at Brockport in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's ice hockey, Friday.
Brockport took a 1-0 lead with 11:11 left in the first period on a goal by junior forward Aidan Verbeke but it was Brink wrapping a goal around the left post to knot the game, 1-1, with 6:56 left in the period.
Geneseo (14-4-3, 8-3-1 SUNYAC) notched the only goal of the second period to build a 2-1 edge. Senior defenseman Pat Condon served two minutes after being whistled for an interference penalty, but sprung from the penalty box to take a long outlet pass at the blue line from sophomore forward Anthony Marra and convert the ensuing one-on-one opportunity with Golden Eagle sophomore goalie Jake Moore with 14:31 on the clock.
The Knights scored two goals in the first five minutes of the third period to build a three-goal lead that proved insurmountable. Brink finished a feed from first-year forward David Szmyd with 1:32 elapsed before senior forward Stephen Collins scored on a nice move to beat Moore from close range with 14:59 left in regulation.
Brockport (9-11-1, 5-7-0 SUNYAC) later pulled within two, but Brink completed the hat-trick with an empty-net tally for his 11th goal of the season with 22 seconds left to seal the victory.
Knights' senior goalie Matt Leon was credited with 22 saves to earn his second-straight victory.
Geneseo is off until next Friday (Feb. 10) when it will travel to Fredonia for a 7:00 p.m. face-off.
