GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo first-year forward Conlan Keenan notched a goal and an assist, but it was the No. 6/7 Knights skating to a 2-2 tie with visiting Elmira, Saturday, in their first outing of the New Year.
After a scoreless first period, the teams notched all four of the game's goals in the second stanza. Geneseo got on the board with 12:18 on the clock. Keenan got off a quick shot after a left-wing face-off that was saved by Elmira senior goalie Sal Magliocco, but first-year forward Andrew Romano collected the rebound on the right post and scored from close range.
Elmira answered less than two minutes later after first-year forward Spencer MacLean scored on a miss-hit shot from the point that eluded Geneseo sophomore goalie Devin McDonald at 10:44. The Soaring Eagles then took a lead at the 6:56 mark after first-year defender Harry Kramer finished off a rush in the low slot off a nice feed from first-year forward Andrew Pucci.
Keenan knotted the score 41 seconds later on a close-range shot inside the right post after receiving a long pass by senior defenseman Derek Stahl from inside the left-board blue line.
Geneseo finished the night with a 46-28 advantage in shots, but couldn't find the go-ahead goal the rest of the way. Elmira staved off an extended Knights' two-man advantage with under 14:00 to play in the third period and also squashed a 3-on-1 Geneseo break with under 9:00 remaining as Magliocco made 17 of his 44 total saves in the third period.
McDonald finished with 26 stops, including 14 in the opening period.
Geneseo continues its three-game home stand next week, hosting Lebanon Valley on Friday (Jan. 13) at 7:00 p.m. and Stevenson on Saturday (Jan. 14) at 3:00 p.m.
