GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo first year forward David Szmyd was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week, Monday, after the Knights' two-game set at Canton last week.
He notched a pair of goals in Friday's 6-6 tie, including the opening tally of the contest with only 2:48 elapsed. On Saturday, he was credited with a goal and an assist for his second-consecutive two-point night as Geneseo earned an 8-5 victory over the host Kangaroos.
Szmyd now has five points on four goals and an assist in the Knights' last three games.
Geneseo (3-1-1), ranked ninth in this week's USCHO.com Division III national poll, returns to action this Saturday, hosting SUNYAC-rival Brockport at 7:00 p.m.
