GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo Men's Basketball team will travel to Oneonta on Tuesday (Feb. 21) for a 5:30 p.m. State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) quarterfinal contest.
The Knights (14-11) earned the sixth seed in the conference tournament, qualifying for their sixth-consecutive playoff berth. Geneseo has faced Oneonta three times in the postseason prior to Tuesday, beating the Red Dragons in the 2014 and 2001 quarterfinals and falling in the 1991 semifinals.
The Knights earned a 75-73 victory over Cortland to close their regular season with two wins in three games and finish at 9-9 in SUNYAC play.
Senior guard John Decker leads the conference with 22.6 points per game while senior guard Justin Ringen ranks seventh with 17.6 points per game. The duo are each closing in on the 1,000-point milestone at Geneseo, with Decker at 992 and Ringen at 998. Senior guard Jack Eisenberg ranks fifth in the conference with 4.0 assists per game and boasts a 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio, good for third in the league.
As a team, Geneseo has shot 80.8% (401-for-496) from the line this season, ranking first in all of NCAA Division III. The squad tops the conference in made three-pointers (282) and three-point percentage (38.3%) as well.
The winner of Tuesday's contest advances to the SUNYAC Tournament semifinals, to be played at Oswego on Friday, Feb. 24 against second-seed Brockport. The top-seeded Lakers await the winner of the other quarterfinal contest featuring Cortland and Buffalo State.
