BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Senior guard Justin Ringen netted a game-high 32 points but it wasn't enough to lead SUNY Geneseo to victory as the team fell at State University of New York Athletic Conference rival Brockport, 98-79, on Friday evening.
Ringen added five rebounds, four assists and three steals to his totals while fellow senior guard John Decker netted 20 points. The Knights shot 46.9% (30-for-64) from the field on the evening but were outdone by the Golden Eagles who shot 56.7% (34-for-60) from the floor in the game.
Geneseo played evenly with the home team for the first 10 minutes, taking a 16-13 lead on back-to-back buckets from first-year forward Sean Crowley with 11:34 to go. Brockport came back with a 7-0 run to regain the lead. With 2:05 left in the first half, Decker hit a three to put the Knights ahead, 35-34, but the Golden Eagles finished the half on a 10-2 run to take a 44-37 advantage at intermission.
In the second half, Brockport began to pull away, taking a 70-58 lead with 11:18 remaining, but the Knights weren't finished. A 10-0 run, including back-to-back threes from Ringen and sophomore swingman CJ Burke, made it a two-point game with 8:50 remaining. However, Geneseo got no closer as the Golden Eagles pulled away in the final minutes for the victory.
Geneseo (12-9, 7-7 SUNYAC) will travel to Oneonta on Friday, Feb. 10 for another conference contest with tip scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
