HARRISBURG, Pa. - SUNY Geneseo senior guard John Decker scored a game-high 27 points, but it was The College of New Jersey taking a 79-68 victory, Saturday, on the first day of the Penn State-Harrisburg Tip-Off Tournament.
Geneseo (1-1) found itself playing catch-up for most of the first half, trailing by as many as 14, 28-14, with 7:56 on the clock on its way to a 36-27 halftime deficit.
Twenty-one points from Decker in the second half pulled the Knights within striking distance, including a long-range strike with 15:05 on the clock that made it a three-point game, 43-40. However the Lions responded with a 9-2 run to reclaim a double-digit lead, 52-42, with 11:20 to play.
A pair of Decker free-throws pulled the Knights within four, 65-61, with 4:24 left in regulation, but it was the Lions doubling up Geneseo down the stretch to earn the 11-point win.
Geneseo will square off with New Rochelle at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday in the consolation game of the tournament.
