GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team will travel to New Paltz on Wednesday (Nov. 2) for a 2:00 p.m. State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Semifinal showdown.
The Knights (9-9) earned the third-seed for the tournament after compiling a 4-2 conference mark to qualify for their seventh-consecutive SUNYAC Tournament appearance.
Wednesday's match will mark the fourth-consecutive season Geneseo has faced New Paltz in the SUNYAC Tournament. The Hawks defeated the Knights in the 2013 (3-1) and 2015 (2-1) semifinals and also earned a 4-0 win to clinch the 2014 conference title.
This season, Geneseo strung together the second-longest winning-streak in program history, winning eight-consecutive decisions before falling, 3-2, at No. 14 Rochester in the regular-season finale (Oct. 28).
Junior forward Giovanna Fasanello is currently tied for second in the SUNYAC with 41 points which is tied for the fourth-highest single-season total in Geneseo history. Her 15 goals are tied for the fourth-highest single-season total in Knights' history, while her 11 assists are tied for the second. Fasanello totaled 10 goals and seven assists during the Knights' unbeaten stretch.
Junior forward Cara Stafford is currently tied for sixth in the league in points (22) and goals (10) while junior midfielder Morgan Maley is tied for 10th with 17 points on 10 goals as well as seven assists that are the fourth-highest total in the league.
The winner of Wednesday's match advances to the SUNYAC Tournament Championship, to be played Saturday (Nov. 5) at 1:00 p.m. on the campus of the highest remaining seed. Top-seeded Cortland hosts fourth-seeded Oneonta in Wednesday's other semifinal.
