Field Hockey Wins Fourth-Straight; Downs Brockport, 6-1

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior forward Giovanna Fasanello compiled three goals and assists t lead the Knights to a 6-1 victory over visiting Brockport in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) field hockey, Wednesday. The win was the Knights' fourth in a row.

Geneseo (5-8, 3-2 SUNYAC) got on the board in the 18th minute after Fasanello received the ball form sophomore forward Maria Dillingham and scored into the middle of the goal from three yards. Fasanello notched her second goal in the 22nd minute. This time, she was assisted by sophomore midfielder Tess Necaise, who played a long pass into the box that Fasanello finished with a power shot.

The Knights scored their third goal of the half in the 29th minute. Junior midfielder Morgan Maley inserted a penalty corner to senior defender Liz Doherty, who gave it right back to Maley for a close-range finish.

Brockport (2-11, 0-5 SUNYAC) answered with a goal of their own in the 33rd  minute after first-year defender Maya Reina scored on a short shot inside the right post on an assist from senior midfielder Emilee Boddery.

Maley got another goal in the 42nd minute to open the second half scoring. Fasanello got the ball off a Maley penalty corner and took a shot, which deflected off Maley's stick inside the left post. The fifth Geneseo goal came in the 49th minute after sophomore forward Gabriella Clare tapped in her own rebound.

Fasanello completed the hat trick in the 63rd minute with a shot from the top of the circle. The reigning SUNYAC Player of the Week has now notched six goals in five assists in the Knights' last three matches.

Geneseo finishes the regular season with five straight road games, starting on Saturday (Oct. 15) with a SUNYAC matchup against Oswego at 1:00 p.m.
