Field Hockey Shoots Past Nazareth, 7-0

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Giovanna Fasanello totaled a goal and three assists to lead the Knights to a 7-0 victory over visiting Nazareth, Wednesday.

Geneseo (3-8) opened a 3-0 halftime lead and added four more tallies in the second half as seven Knights found the back of the net.

Nazareth (1-11) sophomore goalie Kimber Nourse was credited with 24 saves as Geneseo out-shot the visitors, 42-4.

Junior forward Cara Stafford opened the scoring in the 17th minute after tipping a Fassanello pass past Nourse on the goal line. Senior defender Liz Doherty scored on a penalty corner shot from the top-right corner in the 21st minute before Fasanello scored on a blast from the top of the circle to finish off another penalty corner attempt in the 31st minute.

Junior midfielder Morgan Maley took a cross from sophomore midfielder Tess Necaise and tucked a shot inside the right post to open the second-half scoring in the 40th minute. Sophomore forward Maria Dillingham took a feed from Fasanello and scored from close range in the 45th minute for the 5-0 lead.

The Knights tacked on two more goals in the final 20 minutes. Senior forward Amy Fasel tipped a Fasanello shot into the net in the 62nd minute before first-year forward Elisa Arcara scored inside the right post in the 69th minute to close the match.

Geneseo hist the road for a match at Morrisville on Friday (Oct. 7) set to start at 4:00 p.m.
