GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Cara Stafford and junior forward Giovanna Fasanello each tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Knights to a 4-1 victory over Oneonta in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) field hockey play, Friday.
Geneseo (1-6, 1-1 SUNYAC) opened a 3-0 halftime lead that proved to be the difference. Stafford finished a short pass on the goal mouth in the 15th minute before sophomore midfielder Tess Necaise tipped a shot by junior midfielder Diana Ruggiero out of the air and into the Red Dragon cage in the 18th minute.
Junior midfielder Morgan Maley cleaned up a loose ball off an Oneonta save with a shot from close range in the 26th minute to give the Knights a three-goal edge.
In the second half, Fasanello took a pass from Stafford and scored on a nice backhanded shot across the crease for the 4-0 edge in the 41st minute.
Red Dragons' (1-6, 0-1 SUNYAC) senior midfielder Anna Torri finished off a loose ball on the crease in the 58th minute, but it was Geneseo earning the victory.
The Knights return to action on Saturday (Sept. 24) hosting New Paltz for a 1:00 p.m. match.
