GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Giovanna Fasanello scored a goal but it was visiting Hamilton earning the 3-1 victory over the Knights, Tuesday, in field hockey action at College Stadium.
Hamilton scored the lone goal of the first half as sophomore forward Sarah Stinebaugh took a through ball from the left wing by first-year forward Michaela Giuttari and tipped home a short shot in the 15th minute of action.
Giuttari notched her own goal on a strong individual effort, taking a loose ball just over the midfield line and dribbling on goal through the Geneseo defense to score on a low shot inside the left post in the 51st minute.
Just over three minute later, Fasanello converted a Knights' penalty corner, scoring from the top of the circle on a hard drive off an insert by junior midfielder Morgan Maley to cut the Colonial lead in half, 2-1.
However, Hamilton (1-2) senior forward Eva Rosencrans got herself loose during a penalty corner attempt for a shot inside the top-right portion of the circle that found its way into the cage in the 63rd minute for what proved to be the winning margin.
Geneseo (0-5) returns to action on Friday, opening State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play at Cortland at 4:00 p.m.
