GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo Equestrian team enters 2017-18 with a large number of new faces, but intends to maintain the same level of success that the Knights have grown accustomed to the past several years.
Senior Samantha Childs leads a group of 18 returning riders for the Knights. Childs qualified for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zones last season after placing first in the Novice Flat at IHSA Regionals. She picked up where she left off last season, picking up a pair of blue ribbons at the Geneseo Home Shows on October 28 and 29 in Intermediate Fences. Childs is joined by five other seniors that will look to provide solid leadership for the young team.
The Geneseo Equestrian team welcomes 14 new riders to the team for the 2017-18 campaign. Several have already found a productive role among the team, earning points for the squad at the Knights' home shows. Sophomore Sarea Shariff notched two blue ribbons, both in Walk Trot, while first-years Lauren Kaehler and Cheyenne Otto each grabbed blue ribbons on Saturday, in Advanced Walk Trot Canter and Novice Fences, respectively.
After hosting a pair of home shows already this fall, the Knights will travel to Cazenovia for a pair of shows on Nov. 4 and 5, and then head to St. Lawrence to conclude the fall semester on Nov. 18 and 19. In February, the team will resume show season with a journey to Cazenovia (Feb. 24) and St. Lawrence (Feb. 25) before returning to Canton on March 31 for IHSA Regionals, hosted by St. Lawrence University.
