Angelo Zegarelli was named Head Athletic Trainer at Geneseo in June of 2015. Zegarelli is in charge of coordinating all aspects of the athletic training for the Knight's 20 intercollegiate athletic teams and over 400 student-athletes.

Prior to joining the Geneseo staff, Zegarelli spent 11 years as an assistant athletic trainer at the University of Rochester, working with the Yellowjackets’ 23 varsity teams. Additionally, he served as the head athletic trainer for the USA Hockey Under-17 Team for nine years, including working the USA Hockey National Selects Camps as well as traveling to Slovakia with the squad for the Five Nations Tournament two summers ago.

A native of the nearby Rochester suburb of Webster, N.Y., Zegarelli returned to his hometown in 2004 after spending four years as an assistant athletic trainer and adjunct faculty member at Castleton State (Vt.). Prior to that, he also spent a year in Keene, N.H, working as an athletic trainer at HealthSouth Sports Medicine and Rehab while also working as the head athletic trainer for the Keene Swamp Bats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League.

A 1997 graduate of SUNY Brockport with a degree in physical education with a concentration in athletic training, Zegarelli started his career as an athletic training intern with the Rochester Red Wings. He then went on to complete a master’s degree in physical education at Ohio University while also serving as a graduate assistant trainer at Gallia Academy High School in Gallipolis, Ohio.

A National Athletic Trainers Association certified athletic trainer, he was also certified as a strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association while additionally being named a certified nutrition specialist by Lifestyle Management Associates. 

Zegarelli has been asked to present numerous lectures during his career on a wide range of topics, most recently during the University of Rochester Soccer Coaches Academy as well as at the USA Hockey Sled National Development Camp. 

Zegarelli and his wife Brooke, who is a meteorologist for Spectrum News, live in Henrietta, N.Y. with their two daughters – Ava and Alessia.
