Geneseo Student-Athletes Come Together to Support Survivors of Sexual Assault and Interpersonal Violence

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo athletics and recreation department banded together to help prepare 1,000 comfort kits for survivors of sexual assault and interpersonal violence as part of the "SUNY's Got Your Back" program, sponsored by the State University of New York.

The comfort kits include personal care items such as toiletries, soap, lotion and dental hygiene products as well as a personalized note to the survivor providing encouragement and reassurance during a difficult time.

Geneseo Interim Assistant Athletic Director and Senior Women's Administrator Jessica Seren was pleased with the turnout of student-athletes and their support for the cause, "It was exciting to have this many student-athletes turn up for such an excellent cause."

"Ultimately, we want to help these survivors of sexual assault and interpersonal violence cope, heal and recover through one of the most traumatic experiences of their lives," said Seren. "The timing is perfect, because we're able to tie this activity in with NCAA Division III week. This is a great example of our student-athletes continuing to make a huge impact on our campus and surrounding community, which is a large part of what the Division III student-athlete experience is all about."
