Four Knight Earn United Soccer Coaches All-Region Honors

GENESEO, N.Y. - Four student-athletes from the SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region Honors, announced on Monday evening. Senior goalkeeper Emily Janiszewski, senior back Rachel Walsh and junior back Taylor Clar were each named to the first team while senior midfielder Caitie Cunningham garnered second team honors.

Janiszewski joined the All-Region team after a record-setting season. The SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Year tied a Geneseo single-season record with 13 shutouts and owns the Knights' all-time mark with 41 career shutouts. Janiszewski finished the season ranked third in Division III with a .236 goals against average and third in Division III with a .929 save percentage. She made a season-high eight saves in the Knights' SUNYAC Semifinal win over Plattsburgh, helping to preserve a 1-0 victory.

Clar was named to the All-Region First Team for the third-consecutive season, becoming just the fifth player in program history to earn three all-region selections. Clar started 16 games at back as part of a defense that ranked 19th in the nation with a .465 goals against average and 10th in the country with a .737 shutout percentage. Clar also scored a goal and handed out two assists.

Walsh notched her second-consecutive all-region nod after earning third team honors last season. She started all 19 games for the Knights at back, and helped shut out opponents 14 times. A First Team All-SUNYAC selection for the second-consecutive season, Walsh scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Oneonta (Oct. 5).

An All-SUNYAC First Team honoree, Cunningham earned All-Region Second Team after scoring four goals and dishing three assists to finish with 11 points, third on the team. Cunningham handed out two assists and scored the game-winning goal in the Knights' 3-0 win over Buffalo State (Sept. 28), and added the game-winner against Plattsburgh in the regular season (Sept. 22).

The Knights' four honorees tied William Smith as the most-represented team in the region while Geneseo's three first team selections were the most in the region. It marked the second-consecutive season that Geneseo has had four student-athletes earn all-region honors, tying the program record for most all-region selections in one season (1994, 2017).
