GENESEO, N.Y. - Three SUNY Geneseo student-athletes were honored by the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) as Athletes of the Week. Women's cross country senior Elise Ramirez and men's cross country junior Sean McAneny each earned SUNYAC Runner of the Week honors while women's soccer senior Caitie Cunningham was named SUNYAC Offensive Player of the Week.
Ramirez finished first out of 232 runners to lead Geneseo to first place out of 19 teams at the 38th-Annual Mike Woods Invitational, Saturday, at Letchworth State Park. She covered the six-kilometer course with a time of 21:38.0 that was 30 seconds better than the rest of the field as the Knights placed seven runners in the top-nine.
McAneny finished second out of 308 runners to lead Geneseo to first place out of 23 teams at the 38th-Annual Mike Woods Invitational, Saturday, at Letchworth State Park. McAneny covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 25:15.3, less than two seconds behind the winner (from Laurentian, Ontario) as Geneseo placed five runners in the top-11.
Cunningham led the Knights to a pair of victories over conference opponents Buffalo State, 3-0, on Friday and Fredonia, 4-0, on Saturday. Against the Bengals, Cunningham scored the go-ahead goal, and assisted on Geneseo's other two scores. Against the Blue Devils, Cunningham scored again, netting her third goal in three games as the Knights rolled to the win.
