GENESEO, N.Y. - Over 250 SUNY Geneseo student-athletes gathered at Highland Park in the Geneseo Village on Saturday (Sept. 15) to participate in the Teresa House Comfort Care Walk, raising awareness and funds for the local hospice and comfort care facility.
The efforts were led by the Geneseo Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as nearly every Geneseo athletic team was represented, along with several other youth groups, area athletic teams, Teresa House volunteers and community members.
"There's a lot more to being a student-athlete than just sports and academics," said Geneseo SAAC Co-President women's lacrosse senior Emily Young. "Because we are athletes on a team, we know that we are stronger as a unit and how important it is to be apart of something greater than yourself. By being active in our community, we not only build important life skills, but we show compassion and understanding for those around us. It's important to make a difference and be engaged in our community."
The Geneseo SAAC collected nearly $500 in donations for the Teresa House, as the student-athletes joined the walk around and through the village of Geneseo to raise awareness for the facility.
