GENESEO, N.Y. - Five SUNY Geneseo student-athletes were selected by the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) as Athletes of the Week. Junior Quinn Carey earned the men's basketball honor, while senior Lauren Bamford grabbed women's track athlete of the week and first-year Kelly Lennon, sophomore Samantha Reichman and senior Samuel Randall earned swimming & diving awards.
Carey averaged 27.5 points per game in a pair of SUNYAC wins as the Knights took down conference foes New Paltz, 81-67, on Friday night and Oneonta, 73-68, on Saturday. Against the Hawks, Carey tied a pair of career-highs with 31 points and seven made three-pointers, shooting 61.5% from the floor, including 58.3% from behind the arc, and added four rebounds and a block. In the Knights' win over the Red Dragons, Carey scored 24 points, including a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line, and pulled six rebounds and a steal. He ranks 16th in the nation and leads the conference in made three-point field goals per game (3.57).
Bamford ran a leg on the Knights' 4x400 relay that posted the 12th-fastest time (3:56.54) in Division III this season and also posted the 36th-fastest time in the 400 (58.50) during the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational, Friday.
Lennon earned a pair of event wins at the Ithaca Invitational, finishing first in the 50 free (24.70) and the 100 free (52.83). Her time in the 100 free marks the fastest in the SUNYAC so far this season.
Reichman broke a SUNYAC and Geneseo record with a six-dive score of 317.40 on the three-meter dive at the Ithaca Invitational on Saturday. She also recorded a six-dive mark of 275.20 on the one-meter board.
Randall took first in the one-meter and three-meter diving events at the Ithaca Invitational on Saturday. Randall finished with a six-dive score of 361.60 in the one-meter and 361.30 in the three-meter.
