GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo men's swimming & diving senior diver Samuel Randall, women's track & field junior heptathlete Shayna Held and women's basketball junior forward McKenna Brooks each earned State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Athlete of the Week honors, announced by the conference on Monday.
Randall earned a first-place finish in the one-meter dive and grabbed second in the three-meter to lead Geneseo to a second place finish at the Ithaca Winter Invitational. In a field that included NCAA Division I and Division II student-athletes, Randall scored a 508.60 in the three-meter to grab second and put up a 543.45 in the one-meter to take first in the event.
Held finished second in the pentathlon at the Brockport Invitational on Friday. Only finishing behind a competitor from a Canadian university, her 3,192-point performance is currently the top mark in Division III this season and was also only 24 points off the school record she set last year.
Brooks led the Knights to a 3-0 week, including conference wins over Oneonta, 56-52 and New Paltz, 58-56. Brooks scored 15 points against Oneonta and added 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. She followed that performance with a 19-point outing against New Paltz, as the Knights overcame a 15-point halftime deficit to earn the win. Brooks averaged 12.7 points per game in three contests this week, including a 17.0 scoring average in two conference games.
