GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo student-athletes swept the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Cross Country weekly awards, as senior Isaac Garcia-Cassani and junior Elise Ramirez were each honored by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Garcia-Cassani finished first out of 354 runners to lead No. 2 Geneseo to second place out of 38 teams at the Cowbell Classic, hosted by Principia (Ill.), Saturday. The field included 18 teams ranked in the top-30 of the most recent national polls, including six of the top-10 squads. Garcia-Cassani covered the 8-kilometer course with a winning time of 24:41.02, edging runner-up Dhruvil Patel from North Central by .95 of a second. The course will be the site of the NCAA Division III Championships next month.
Ramirez finished 20th out of 332 runners to lead the Knights to third place out of 36 teams at the Cowbell Classic, Saturday. The field included 16 teams ranked in the top-35 of the most recent national polls, including seven of the top-10 squads. Ramirez traversed the 6-kilometer course with a time of 22:05.57.
Both Geneseo cross country teams will compete on Saturday, October 28 in the SUNYAC Championships, hosted by Potsdam.
