GENESEO, N.Y. - Senior Isaac Garcia-Cassani, junior Elise Ramirez and sophomore Domenica Piccoli each earned State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Athlete of the Week honors, released by conference officials on Monday.
Garcia-Cassani was named Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week after he bested a stacked field at the Williams College Purple Valley Classic for the second year in a row to lead the No. 2 Knights to their second team title in as many years. In his first race of the season, the senior clocked a 25:50.2 to best the 324-runner field by 14 seconds. Geneseo compiled 87 points to defeat No. 13 RPI (95 points), No. 12 Amherst (109), No. 19 Middlebury (117) and No. 4 Williams (136) in the top-five of the 26-team field.
Ramirez earned Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week after finishing sixth at the Williams College Purple Valley Classic, leading the No. 5 Knights to a third overall finish. In her first appearance of the season, Ramirez navigated the 6k course in 22:24.1, finishing as the first Geneseo runner across the finish. The Knights took third place behind No. 3 MIT and McGill (Montreal) while beating out No. 4 Williams, No. 16 Dickinson and No. 7 Ithaca.
Piccoli was tagged Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Knights to a pair of SUNYAC victories over the weekend. Piccoli scored three goals as the Knights earned a pair of victories in their first two conference games of the year. Piccoli scored one of Geneseo's five goals against last year's conference champion Buffalo State as the Knights ran past the Bengals, 5-0. The forward netted two more goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-0 defeat of Fredonia on Saturday as well. Piccoli is tied for the Knights' team lead and is third in the SUNYAC with five scores this season.
