Volkmann Receives 2017 Bill Esposito Award at CoSIDA Convention

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo Director of Athletic Communications Tim Volkmann was named the 2017 Bill Esposito Award winner by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) earlier this year. He received the award at the CoSIDA Convention in Orlando, Fla. as part of the convention's annual awards luncheon on Wednesday, June 14.

This award is presented to a CoSIDA member displaying sound judgment and unusual courage in taking a stand in intercollegiate athletics contrary to public opinion and sentiment, or who displays sound judgment and unusual courage in guiding their institution through difficult public relations situations.

Volkmann guided the Geneseo Athletic Department through tumultuous times and the loss of three student-athletes over the past 18 months, taking on the difficult task of managing international and national media outlets attempting to cover the story on campus while the campus and community grieved their losses. He worked with campus colleagues to craft the university's message, which included adopting the social media hashtag "#OneKnight."

Joining the Knights in 2013, Volkmann has completed four years at Geneseo. Prior to his tenure with the Knights, he spent six years at the United States Military Academy, and also served for two years at the University of Rhode Island.
