GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Mike Mooney announced the appointment of Liam Welsh as Associate Director of Athletics for the Knights.

Welsh comes to Geneseo after serving as a member of the athletic administration staff for the last four years at State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival Brockport, joining the department in 2012 as Assistant to the Athletic Director, before being promoted to Assistant Director in the summer of 2013.

"I couldn't be happier about Liam joining our team," said Mooney. "Having the opportunity to get to know and work with him previously as a member of the SUNYAC, I've seen first-hand that he is already one of the top, young athletic administrators in the business with unlimited potential. Now, I'm even more excited to have him on our side."

In his role with the Golden Eagles, Welsh served as a member of the senior management team with responsibilities including external relations, budget management, game day operations, facility coordination, NCAA compliance, marketing, scheduling and staff supervision for the 23-sport program.

"I am incredibly grateful and excited to become a member of the Geneseo Athletic Department," said Welsh. "As a nationally recognized academic institution that has recently achieved unprecedented athletic success, Geneseo represents the best in Division III athletics.  I look forward to joining the institution's passionate campus community, as well as working with the talented teams, coaches, faculty, staff and alumni to enhance the student-athlete experience at SUNY Geneseo."

Welsh oversaw Brockport's sponsorship and ticket sales generation through the development and implementation of an effective marketing and promotional strategy, identifying, soliciting and cultivating business partnerships with over 70 local and regional businesses. He also managed the fundraising strategies of the department's annual fund, the Golden Eagle Society, realizing a 54-percent growth in annual memberships along with a 38-percent increase in donations during his tenure.

Supervising 11 full-time employees, including seven head coaches, as well as over 100 student employees, Welsh was also the host site administrator for all of Brockport's home athletic contests, highlighted by the 2014 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament Regional finals, as well as the 2012 National Collegiate Gymnastics Championships and the 2012 Empire Wresting Conference Championships.  He also was responsible for the education, monitoring and documentation of the department's compliance efforts, ensuring all student-athletes, coaches and administrators were operating within NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
