GENESEO, N.Y. - Both the SUNY Geneseo men's and women's cross country/track & field programs were ranked among the nation's best in the final U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Program of the Year rankings.
The Knights women finished third, while the men placed 11th in the annual standings that measure the top combined programs in Division III.
Scoring is based on teams' respective finishes at the NCAA Championships in cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field (i.e. 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points, 31st = 31 points, etc.). The program with the lowest total score for all three championships determines the rankings.
The Geneseo women totaled a final score of 30 points, finishing national runner-up in cross country before tying for eighth in outdoor and tying for 17th in indoor. Washington (Mo.) finished first with 11 points after placing third in both indoor and outdoor while adding a fifth-place showing in cross country.
The Knights men placed third in cross country, tied for 16th in indoor and tied for 46th in outdoor for a score of 70 points. UW-Eau Claire finished first with four total points after winning cross country and indoor before finishing second in outdoor.
